SEVEN RACES, SEVEN WINS SINCE ‘07 FOR GOOD NIGHT SHIRT
Two-time steeplechase champion Good Night Shirt started a winning streak in November of 2007 and hasn’t looked back since. On March 28, the son of Concern-Hot Story, by Two Punch drew away in the last stages of the $75,000 Carolina First Carolina Cup to win the Grade II event by 2 & 1/4 lengths. It was the 8-year-old’s first start of the year and the tally, worth $45,000, pushed his lifetime earnings to $978,493. Good Night Shirt now ranks second behind McDynamo on the all-time earnings list of steeplechase performers.
GOOD NIGHT SHIRT, NSA LEADING HORSE OF 2008
Good Night Shirt, the Maryland-bred son of Concern-Hot Story, by Two Punch, took top honors for 2008 from the National Steeplechase Association. It’s the second consecutive year for Good Night Shirt, who is also the leading candidate for the 2008 Eclipse Award, which he also earned in 2007. The gelding won all five of his starts in 2008, all of which were Grade One events. While earning $485,520 for the year, Good Night Shirt broke the single season earnings record, which he set in 2007 with $314,163. Also taking NSA annual honors in their respective categories were Good Night Shirt’s owner Harold “Sunny” Via and trainer Jack Fisher. Congratulations to Good Night Shirt and crew!
WINNER IN FRANCE!
LISSELAN GARDENS, a five year old son of Concern took the E25,000 ($37,000 US apx) Prix de Compiegne on February 9 at Cagnes Sur Mer. He went wire-to-wire over the “very soft” 1300 meters. LISSELAN GARDENS is out of the Irish Towers mare Sambacarioca.
